Egypt: When Virginity is More Important than Murder

Egypt is gripped with the story of a gruesome murder, in which two university students were killed, in the upscale Sixth of October Citys Sheikh Zayed district. One of the victims is the daughter of Moroccan singer Laila Ghofran.

This murder follows in the heels of yet another horrifying crime which claimed the life of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tameem, in Dubai, and in which an Egyptian businessman is accused of hiring a hitman to have her killed.

AK of For Sudan comments on the Sudanese government accepting a agreed to the deployment to Darfur of a joint force of the African Union and the United Nations: So is this a move in the right direction? Absolutely! However, the international community i.e. the US has been focusing too much of its effort to help resolve this conflict on its military aspect. I see it like this, the security and humanitarian situations are the side effects of the real issues of politics, economics and the environment.

December 1st is observed around the world as AIDS Day and the occasion is largely publicized. Unlike the attention World AIDS Day receives, World Disability Day barely registers on the world medias radar.

Celebrated every year on December 3rd, World Disability Day honors the contribution made to our world by those with physical and mental handicap. In case of South Asia, there is severe stigma attached any kind of physical and mental handicap. World Disability Day is an opportunity to spread awareness about the rights of the handicapped and that being differently able is not a sin or something to be ashamed of.
