Since January 2008, continuous rainfall has affected several provinces, among which Manabí, Los Ríos and Guayas due to the climatic phenomena known as La Niña. The annual Ecuadorian rainy season that starts in December and continues until the end of May caused flooding before, but the effect of the El Niño and la Niña phenomenon on the climate in the southern hemisphere is profound and has worsened the effects of the rainy season.
