ICRC appoints new permanent vice-president

Geneva (ICRC) – At its meeting on 26 April 2007, the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) appointed
Ms Christine Beerli to the post of permanent vice-president.
She will succeed Mr Jacques Forster on 1 January 2008.
Ms Beerli, a lawyer, has been a member of the ICRC Assembly since 2005.
Currently head of the Department of Engineering and Information Technology at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, she was a member of the Swiss Council of States from 1991 to 2003.
In February 2007, the Assembly appointed ICRC President Jakob Kellenberger to a new four-year term, until the end of 2011.
