Mortar barrage kills 10 in Sunni area of Baghdad

BAGHDAD, June 2 (Reuters) - A mortar barrage killed 10 people and wounded 30 in central Baghdad's Sunni Fadhl neighbourhood early on Saturday, police said. The mortar rounds landed on homes in one of Baghdad's oldest areas and seem to have been part of the capital's sectarian fighting between minority Sunnis and majority Shi'ites. On Friday evening, a mortar attack killed 10 and wounded 30 in the Shi'ite Um al-Maalif district in southwestern Baghdad. Mortar attacks have become increasingly common in Baghdad as a major security crackdown by thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops make it difficult for militants to move about.
