Guinea president names new consensus government

CONAKRY, March 28 (Reuters) - Guinea's president named a new government on Wednesday after consultations with consensus Prime Minister Lansana Kouyate, who was appointed last month to end a series of crippling strikes in the world's top bauxite exporter. President Lansana Conte announced the new government in a broadcast on state TV. Nationwide strikes and protests against Conte, a reclusive diabetic in his 70s, brought the West African country to a standstill for much of January and February. More than 120 people were killed as the security forces quelled the unrest.
