TOYAKO, Japan, July 8 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday after a meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush that she was "very satisfied" with the work of the Group of Eight on issues of climate change, food and oil.

In brief comments, Bush did not mention those issues, but he said that the two were in agreement on the need to work together on Iran.

Soaring food and oil prices and their impact on the world economy are high on the agenda at a G8 leaders summit which kicked off on Monday in northern Japan. (Reporting by Gernot Heller, Writing by Linda Sieg)
